The sun was shining brightly over Mellor Village Hall the weekend of our annual Scarecrow Festival. As families gathered, it was heartwarming to see the village busy with excitement as people embarked on the much-anticipated scarecrow trail, with maps in hand, ready to explore the creative displays scattered throughout our beautiful village.
From the start, it was clear that our villagers had truly outdone themselves this year. Every one was a meticulously crafted scarecrow. The creativity and effort that went into making these figures were truly remarkable. From classic characters to modern favourites, the scarecrows seemed to tell a story at every stop.
It was wonderful to see families, young and old, meandering through the village, discovering these delightful creations and the sun came out to make it even more perfect.
The highlight of the day, of course, was the announcement of the winners. After much anticipation, Cheryl Holden was crowned the winner of this year's Scarecrow Festival with her beautifully detailed Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle. Cheryl’s creation was nothing short of enchanting, capturing the whimsical charm of the beloved Beatrix Potter character, complete with a little apron and a friendly, welcoming face that delighted everyone who saw it.
The People’s Choice award, a true reflection of community favorites, went to Jayne Livesey for her Paddington Bear. Jayne’s Paddington was a hit with everyone, standing proudly with his iconic red hat and blue coat, and of course, a jar of marmalade close by. It was no surprise that Paddington stole the hearts of so many, young and old alike. People even got our local postman to stand for photos with it.
We’re already looking forward to next year’s festival, but until then, we’ll cherish the memories made and the joy that this year’s event brought to everyone involved. Thank you to all the participants, the organizers, and of course, the villagers who came out to support and celebrate.
Here's to many more years of scarecrow fun!
